    Required reading for incoming First Graders: Incoming First Graders need to read a minimum of 8 books over the summer. Choose books from the HAISLN list, prepared each year by the Houston Area Independent School Librarians, which is organized by grade level. Please fill out and bring your Reading Log to your first-grade teacher during the first week of school. Teachers need to be sure that the books assigned are readily available at the local library. Perhaps the school library could remain open over the summer, on a limited basis, to facilitate student reading and access to materials.
